Buffett Puts on a Show in Omaha

April 15th, 2012

It’d been over 25 years since Jimmy played a public concert in Omaha, but he made up for it with a memorable show that started with an introduction from “Uncle Warren.” The Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, came out at the beginning of the show to introduce Jimmy:

“I want to welcome all of you to this 2012 annual meeting,” Warren Buffett said with a laugh.

“Cousin Warren,” Jimmy Buffett interrupted, “that’s next month.”

Coincidentally, about an hour after Jimmy’s show ended, Saturday Night Live made a Warren/Jimmy “Buffett Rule” joke during their Weekend Update segment.

Omaha fans received a special treat when Buffett debuted the song “All Night Long,” which he duets with Lionel Richie on Richie’s latest album Tuskegee.

The Omaha World Herald has a review of the show here:

“Something tells me there have been people preparing for this for a long time,” Buffett said. “It is great to be back in Omaha and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I promise it won’t be this long before I’m back again.”

Buffett offered a lot of jokes in between songs and told about how he wrote his tunes. He also made lots of references to “cousin Warren,” eating at Piccolo Pete’s and the stormy weather outside both between songs and by subbing Omaha-friendly lyrics during some songs.

The fans screamed and cheered every time.

I’ve never seen an artist receive that kind of open and absolute affection from a crowd.

“I’ve felt the love here for a long time,” Buffett said. “I’m glad we got to do it here tonight.”
